My Worst Date Ever! Or At Least I Hope So
by Jenny Peters
Another lonely Saturday night in New York City and I am home alone
watching a chick flick. "The Sweetest Thing" with Cameron Diaz and
Christina Applegate. During one of the scenes that featured a wedding
the bride leans over and tells the groom she doesn't want to get
married because she met someone online.
Since I was sitting near the computer and feeling bad I did some
online searching for a date. I put online dating into the search box
and started browsing. Feeling sorry for myself I sat there for about
two hours looking at some of the guys profiles. I joined Yahoo
personals and sent this guy named Jeff an email.
His profile had 4 pictures all of them had him in shorts on one of
the Caribbean islands. I said to myself this guy must have some money
and he was cute what did I have to lose.
We traded emails back and forth for about three weeks and I really
thought he was the one. We went out after what seemed like forever.
Jeff's emails were so sweet I was so looking forward to going out with
him. We agreed to go to a Broadway play and dinner.
I got the tickets to the play "Moving Out" which he agreed to pay
me back and he picked the restaurant. I really didn't care where we
ate as I am sure he would pick a good place well I was wrong about
that.
He picked me up and he didn't exactly look like he did in the
pictures. It looked like the pictures were taken 5 years ago. While he
did look ok it wasn't the way I wanted to start out with. As we walked
out to his car it became obvious that he didn't have any money. His
car was a 1987 Buick Century with tons of rust on it. I should of
stopped right there but I already had the tickets to the play. I knew
I was in trouble when he kept talking about the great gas mileage the
car gets all the way into the city.
The play was great, actually much better than I thought it would
be. He kept trying to hold my hand and feel my leg but I wasn't having
any of it as I knew he wasn't the right guy. He was having fun and the
date was going real well for him. Little did he know this was our last
date. This date was worse than my date with Bob
and that was bad.
I was looking forward to dinner and I figure I might as well get a
meal so he took me to his favorite restaurant McDonalds. Needless to
say I was so out of there, I didn't get my money back for the play
tickets either. I walked around the city and found myself at the bar
at the ESPN Zone in Times Square because the Yankees were playing the
Red Sox. That is where I met Dave.
